Redrawing the mages

Initially, I used aseprite to create the mages, this is how the pixel version of our friends look, as seen in the protoype:

I thought to add detail to them after i was done with the prototype and about to start the actual game. However, I soon realized i take too much time drawing with pixels due to my sub-par pixeling skills and thought going with vector + cutout animation should be a simple way to takle it,

I started trying to recreate the pixel art with inkscape, first  the red mage:

I found it to be harder to animate than I would like it to.

So I went ahead and tried to make the blue mage more simplistic, chibi looking!
I went with quite a few attemps:

In the end, I liked the one in the circle the best. Another close contender is the one the right of the one I chose, because I think it shows a little better to be some kind of "ice mage robe" than the chosen one, but the coat make it feel more original I think. Good thing about using vector drawings and cutout animation is that you can change your mind fairly quick !

Now that the style was defined, red mage had to be remade! It was very straight forward, really liked how he came up.
Only aimed for two different choices this time!

Lastly, I had a hard time designing on a style for the purple guy.... I wanted to avoid the cliche-y pointy hat, and tried with a hood, but the folks over at the AskGameDev discord pointed how it was not fitting at all, I'm glad I asked for help :).

This were my attemps at our grape colored friend:

I should still add some shadings and the likes, but overall, I am quite happy with how the mages re-design turned out.

Also, I started already animating them, here's a sneak peek of the shoot animation for the ice mage using godot's animation player:
